Worshipping and Serving Since 1794
On behalf of the entire church family, we warmly welcome you to St. John’s Gernant’s Church. In December 2012, we became a shared ministry congregation, which means one minister and one service. As of June 2018, we are a Federated Church. We are proudly affiliated with the United Church of Christ and the ECLA. We are an inclusive and ecumenical denomination where people of all backgrounds are warmly received. At St. John’s, we believe that building community is far more important than religiosity.
Here at St. John’s, you will find an inter-generational community, with programs and activities for all ages. We gather for worship every Sunday morning. We also offer many opportunities for volunteering and service to others.
We invite you to come and worship with us!
Our Church
“Set on a hill that cannot be hid,” St. John’s Gernant’s has overlooked the beautiful Berks County countryside and served the community of Leesport and beyond for over 200 years. Founded in 1794, the church building was constructed by the sons of John Gernant. The church is full of stained glass windows, complete with a beautiful mural of Jesus in the garden before the soldiers came to take him away. The Memorial Grove was planted in 1936 and is now the site of Memorial Hall, built in 1995.
Today, St. John’s is a healthy and vibrant congregation of all ages engaged in ministry to the members, the community, and the world. The beautiful historic building and grounds are often used to host musical groups, fellowship dinners, and other community events. Join in our fellowship and give thanks for the many ways in which God has blessed our lives.
Each Sunday morning we gather for worship. While the church consists of many programs and activities, this is the heart of our community. Our inspiring sanctuary provides a beautiful setting for worship. All religious backgrounds are warmly welcomed. Our services is very “user friendly” and easy for first-time visitors. The sermons are not only “good news”, but they are designed to relate to the issues we face in everyday life. Come be refreshed and renewed. You’ll be glad that you did!
Music plays an important role at St. John’s. Our music director has developed a varied program of vocal and instrumental music, which greatly enhances the worship experience.
